Darron Gibson chargted over hit and run and bailed to appear in court
DARRON Gibson is facing a court hearing for drink driving after his £125,000 car ploughed into a cyclist and then hit a petrol pump, it is claimed.
According to reports, the Derry-born Everton star was at the wheel of his Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo when he allegedly struck the bike.
The £50,000 a week player is then said to have driven off before pulling into a nearby petrol station where he reportedly collided with a set of pumps before coming to a stop.
Police were called and the 27-year-old former Man Utd midfielder was arrested after failing a breath test.
It is understood the cyclist sustained minor injuries.
The alleged incident, at around 9.45 am on Sunday, happened less than a mile from Gibson’s £2 million home in Altrincham, Cheshire.
The star – who was educated at St Columb’s College in Derry – was held in cells for several hours.
He was later charged with drink driving, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident.
Gibson, a Republic of Ireland international, faces a magistrates’ court appearance next month.
His luxury carbon fibre motor, which has a personalised number plate and 3.8-litre turbocharged V6 engine which can power it to 196mph, suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage.
The car was seized by cops and is now being repaired at a specialist garage in Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the footballer — currently injured — had been charged.
A spokesman said: “He has been bailed to appear at Trafford magistrates’ court on Tuesday, September 1.
“This is in relation to an incident on August 16 where police were called to reports that a car had collided with a cyclist and failed to stop before pulling into a petrol station and colliding with a pump.”
Gibson lives with wife Danielle, whom he wed in June 2013, in a six-bed, four-bathroom property with their kids aged five and one.
