POLITICIANS from across the political divide have united in paying tribute to and expressing their sadness at the death of Derry City football captain Ryan McBride.
“There is deep shock and sadness at the loss of a young man who brought so much happiness to others through his skills and dedication.
“I extend my sincere condolences to Ryan’s family, colleagues and friends – and hope they can take some comfort from the breadth and depth of sympathy which has been so widely expressed following his very sad death.”
Colum Eastwood added: Ryan’s passing is terrible news and will affect people across our city.
“We are all thinking of his family and his wide circle of friends at this very difficult time.”
Expressing his sympathies, Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney said: “There is widespread shock across the city and beyond following the sudden death of Derry City FC captain, Ryan McBride.
“Ryan was an excellent player, a great leader on and off the field and an inspiration to many.
“I send my condolences and those of the party to the McBride family and everyone who knew Ryan.
“I have no doubt the community across the city will rally round to support then at this sad and difficult time.”
Former First Minister and DUP leader Arlene Foster tweeted: “My deepest condolences to the family and all @derrycityfc as they mourn the loss of the talented Ryan McBride.
“Such devastating news.”
