Man arrested after two stabbed at U16 GAA game

A man has been arrested after two people were stabbed at an Under 16 GAA game on Thursday evening.

PSNI response units raced to the scene at the Paddy Cullen sports ground on Convent Road in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, and arrested a man in his 40s.

One man was taken to hospital and a second man received treatment at the scene.

The PSNI has appealed to any witnesses or anyone with footage of what happened to contact them.

The NI Ambulance Service confirmed it received a 999 call at 9.03pm.

Cookstown Fr Rocks Under-16s boys team were playing Fintona Pearses in a championship semi-final at Paddy Cullen Park in Cookstown.

Cookstown GFC said it is now supporting children and young people “who witnessed this disturbing and very serious incident”.

Tyrone GAA has said it is aware of an incident, which has occured at a game in the county this evening.

In a statement, Tyrone said “our thoughts are with all those impacted”.

It said that the incident is being investigated by the PSNI and that it has no further comment to make at this time.

Footage posted on social media appears to show police officers responding to the incident at the GAA grounds.
