finnharpsFinn Harps unbeaten start to this season’s Airtricity Division One campaign ended with a 2-0 away defeat to Shelbourne tonight.

The Finn Park club were made to pay the penalty in more ways than one – missing a spot kick to draw level and conceding a last minute penalty for which John Mailey was sent off.

Harps had the first chance of the game in the 12th minute when a Carel Tiofack free kick, awarded for handball against Hand outside the penalty box, was dealt by Greg Murray.

The home side took the lead in the 23rd minute when Gareth Coughlan curled a free free kick from just outside the Harps penalty box into the top left hand corner.

Funston wasted the chance to bring the visitors level before half time when he missed from the penalty spot.

Harps pushed for the equaliser in the second period before the home side wrapped up the three points with Keith Quinn’s successful last minute spot kick.
