The Finn Harps team that made history by winning the FAI Cup in 1974 – the club’s only major trophy in senior football – is to be honoured next month.

Under manager Patsy McGowan and chairman Fran Fields, Harps defeated St Patrick’s Athletic 3-1 at a packed Dalymount Park to bring the coveted trophy to the North West.

The goals were scored by Derry men Brendan Bradley (2) and Charlie Ferry – two of a squad that included a number of other players from the city – the others being Declan McDowell, brothers Tony and Donal O’Doherty, Jim “Chang” Smith, Peter Hutton and Paddy McGrory.

Footage from the day will also be shown.

Refreshments and finger food will be available  for what promises to be an informal and very enjoyable evening.

Meanwhile, teams of four are being invited to participate in a golf classic being held at the club earlier the same day (“shotgun” start for all teams at 1.00pm).

Entry fee is €120 per team and there with great prizes and refreshments on offer.

To book or for more information, telephone Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club on (00353) 74-9131093.
